After School Enrichment Offerings and Schedule

Our Mt. Washington School students can enjoy a robust offering of after school classes that enrich their educational experience. The collaboration between MWPTA and FOMWS brings an assortment of class offerings to our students. Our After School Enrichment classes are meant to help support the varied interests of your children and are not an after school care program.

Once you enroll your child in a class make sure that the teacher has confirmed receipt of your payment and enrollment.

If you have any general questions, want to make a class suggestion, and/or want to share your talents with our school community you can contact Sonal Khemani at

All Things Italian

From arancini to zabaglione, we'll be "touring" the countryside of Italy creating delightful dishes on site learning a little about the country, the language, and the culture. Created and curated by local Mt. Washington chef and owner of Radical Cooks Nina Zippay.

Nina's intention with this class is to not only introduce some classic Italian dishes, such as learning to make pasta from scratch, etc., but to hopefully also introduce a little Italian geography, culture, and language in the process. Being 50% Italian in national origin, Nina is beyond excited for this class!

SPRING SESSION (2/7/2022-5/27/2022)

Los Angeles boasts some of the most beautiful mountain ranges, biodiversity, and urban parks in the world - and we're ready to get your students out there in a fun and safe way! We'll explore age appropriate hikes with a mix of sensory awareness games, natural history journaling, and teamwork activities along the way.

Our combination of experienced and friendly staff, spectacular outdoor classrooms, community building techniques, and long-term mentorship will provide your child with connections to nature, their peers, and themselves.

These adventures bring what students are learning in the classroom into an exciting real world context, and give them the depth of experience you always wanted for them. They may even discover a new subject or passion!

Biocitizen LA About Us Video - 2 mins

Spring Semester Update:

We are excited to share a couple of program updates with our Mt. Washington community!

Firstly, in an effort to create a more contiguous program for staff and students we’re switching the semester-length from 8 weeks to 14-15 weeks, which is in line with other Biocitizen LA ASE groups. This will allow our groups to explore, connect and gain the most out of our program with fewer interruptions and registration logistics.

Mon – Walking Model – Pick up from 5:20 – 5:35 PM

Fri – Van Model – Pick up from 5:20 – 5:35 PM

Monday Group (K – 2nd Grade)

Group Capacity: 13 students

Program duration:  14 week semester // Feb 7th – May 23th

**No After School during the following dates -> April 11th – 15th – Spring Break

Where will my kids go? How will ya’ll get there?

Here are some of our typical outdoor locations for Mt. Washington Elementary

Moon Canyon Park

Heidelberg Canyon

Elyria Canyon Park

Rio de Los Angeles State Park

When school gets out, the students will be greeted by our biocitizen educators where we’ll head out on foot to explore some of our nearby outdoor spaces!

When and where is pick-up?

Pick-up will occur at our outdoor classrooms. We’ll send our families the location schedule every two weeks so you’ll know exactly where we’ll be!

Pick up windows are the last fifteen minutes of the day

Friday Group (5th & 6th Grade) – Van Transportation 1-way

Afternoon pick-up: Azucena and Jeffrey pick up students directly from Mt. Washington at school dismissal.

Transportation: Biocitizen van & drive to a nearby outdoor classroom approximately 20 min. away from campus.

Programming: Given our new mode of transportation, we now have access to even more locations to visit for our ASE programs.

We would partake in bigger hikes with more opportunities to deepen our learning, exploration, and connection to our local area.

Evening pick-up: Families would be responsible for picking up students from each of our destinations at the end of class (5:20-5:35 PM).

These will be ~ 20 mins away from the MWE campus.

Group Capacity: 13 students

Program duration:  15 week semester // Feb 11th – May 27th

**No After School during the following dates -> April 11th – 15th – Spring Break
