We Need You (Yes, YOU :)

Your skills, knowledge and heart are needed! Whether it is helping your child’s teacher, participating in our events or lending your creative talents, there is a fun and fulfilling volunteer opportunity for every parent and guardian!

FYI

Before & After School

Safety valetS (Auto + Walking) • Daily, 7:30–8:15 a.m.

We get it. Morning drop-offs can be stressful. Luckily we have a dedicated group of parents who make our mornings a little smoother and San Rafael a little less congested. If you want to be that parent who helps fellow parents breathe a sigh of relief, sign up for this opportunity.

Auto Safety Valets ensure that our kids have a safe exit from vehicles while keeping traffic moving. Volunteer from 7:30 - 8:15 a.m. daily, weekly or on a rotating basis.

Walking Valet All new for the 2025-26 school year! Cut down on traffic and help everyone get to school safely. From 7:50 - 8:00 a.m. daily, the Walking Valet will accept children in the Marchena cul-de-sac, at the base of the stairs. At 8:00 a.m., they will accompany the kids up the stairs and to the Danforth gate of the school. Volunteer from 7:50 - 8:10 a.m. daily, weekly, or on a rotating basis.

Snack SHACK • After School: 2:45–3:15 P.M.

Every day after school our kids flock to the coolest spot on campus, The Wolves Den Snack Shack. We need parents to stock the Shack with healthy yummy treats, supervise the line and help with snack purchases. The best part? You get to work side-by-side with your child and score some cool points. Shifts are rotated throughout the week. Bonus: it’s a great way for your kid to learn about money, math and some business skills. And FYI, the popsicles! Be sure there are ALWAYS plenty of popsicles! .

LOST & Found

Ugh, we know. Stuff goes missing pretty quickly and quite frequently! It’s hard for our kids to keep track of all the things they need to bring to school. Be their hero (and their parents hero!) by helping us organize the lost and found cabinet so everyone is reunited with their beloved items! We have periodic clean-outs as well so there are plenty of chances for happy reunions.

On the Playground

Recess & Lunch Aides*

Do you have a desire to go back to school? Or at least go back to the days of RECESS??

If so, we need playground aides this year! For both recesses (9:50am-10:10am & 10:15am-10:35am) and lunch (11:45am-1:10pm). Sign up for one shift a week or multiple days and see how much fun the kids have running around.

Please see the Volunteer Application Process at https://achieve.lausd.net/Page/10443

Loose Parts Program (UTK/K Yard)*

We find fun imaginative and safe ways for our little ones to have a good time on our playground. Join this team to help brainstorm new ideas and be a part of some wonderful creative activities. We guarantee seeing our tiniest Wolves having the time of their lives will be a reward in and of itself. Contact mwe.looseparts@gmail.com to volunteer and for more info.

Loose Parts Program (Lower Yard)*

See description above. The same Loose Parts Program but for the bigger kids on the Main Yard. Contact mwe.looseparts@gmail.com to volunteer and for more info.

In the Classroom

Classroom Parent Rep (Weekly)

Are you great with e-mail and want to take a leadership role in your child's classroom? Room rep responsibilities vary based on the teacher, but each classroom needs help to recruit parent volunteers, promote PTA programs and events, and send weekly school/classroom updates to fellow class parents. Each room rep acts as the teacher/parent liaison for their particular class, and every class needs one!

Room reps don't technically need to be on-campus during instructional hours, but it's a fairly easy process to get approved by LAUSD, and it's helpful to have in case you need to help out in person.

Yearbook Photographer*

Are you always ready to capture that adorable moment in your child's life? There are so many fun moments happening in the classroom and at events. We need parents from each class who would love to document some memories for all of us to enjoy, and for the yearbook!

Events & Fundraising

Mount Washington MADE Craft Fair • sep 27, 2025

The Mt. Washington Made event is legendary around these hills. We’ve been known to have folks line up super early for a chance to nab the latest fashionable pants! Pre-Covid, the craft fair was held on the same day as the Pancake Breakfast, but this year it will have its own spotlight as the first big on-campus event of the school year. Be a part of the crew that pulls off this amazing event.

DIRECT APPEAL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN • Sep–Nov 2025

This is our biggest and most important fundraising opportunity of the year. The money we raise provides important educational programs, school equipment, and vital resources our children need in order to thrive. Getting involved with this campaign is a great way to meet other families while having a positive impact on our students’ experience at MWE.

Moonlight Howl Halloween carnival • Oct 25

This is THE event you want to be involved in. Our Halloween Carnival is a total blast for the kids and parents. If you love to create haunted houses, gooey potions, spooky cauldrons and scary mazes, you absolutely need to sign up for this!

Spring Book Fair • Mar 9–13, 2026

Love books? Help our kids find and purchase their new favorite book! Our annual Book Fair is a huge success and we are always in need of parent volunteers to help with the operation.

Pancake Breakfast & Arts Festival • Spring 2026

Help folks fill their bellies with yummy pancakes and hot coffee, and continue a delicious tradition that all of Mt. Washington has come to love.

Arts & Creative Expression

Arts Creative After School (ACAS) • Monthly

Have fun with our makers after school! Once a month during the school-year our committee collaborates with local artists to provide a creative and educational art session. Help spark their imaginations! Check out the ACAS page for more details: https://www.mwpta.org/arts-collective-after-school.

PTA Reflections Arts Program Committee • Fall 2025

Every year our kids participate in the National PTA Reflections Art Program. It's a wonderful chance for our students to showcase their talents. We need parents who are able to assist in facilitating and curating the exhibit at our school. For more information, visit Reflections Art Program https://www.pta.org/home/programs/reflections
